Introducing the new Kitchen interface, Task management, and so much more

  • Blue Winter
  • UI

After months of hard work, we’re happy to announce the biggest update in Kitchen’s history – code-named Blue Winter. Today we introduce Task management, new interface for the Project screen and reworked UI for the application.

Project Screen now uses Tabs

This update is a an evolutionary step for the main Project screen – it now allows you to pick what modules of Kitchen are applicable for each project.

For example, if you’re working on internal project with your team, you can now remove Invoicing, Quotes and Deliverables while keeping the Conversation and Tasks.

This is achieved by new Tab interface, where each Tab is a separate Kitchen module. Some modules can have multiple instances(e.g. Task Boards), while other can be included just once(e.g. the Deliverables for the project).

Task Management

You can now add Task boards to your Kitchen Projects when you create a project, or by using the Tab interface in your existing Projects.

Task boards can be shared with your clients, but you can also keep them private to your team.

Task boards allow simple-yet-powerful task management:

  • You can start using a Task board as a simple, shared to-do list
  • A task can be either Incomplete(the default state) or Completed
  • Tasks support assignees and due dates, however you’re not required to use these.
  • Tasks can be ogranized to sections – however, this is up to your team’s needs. Typical sections are Backlog -> To Do -> Doing -> Done. Again, you’re not required to use sections
  • Tasks can also have description, file attachments, as well as conversation
  • You can use Tasks for Client communication – you just need to make the task Board visible to clients

Notifications Inbox

Kitchen will now keep track of all outstanding notifications for you and allow you to archive them. This allows for tracking of Client Conversations, task events, as well as invoice / quotes.

Never again will an important update slip through the cracks.

Project Views

The Project listing screens also received a lot of updates to make them more customizable and less rigid.

You can now create Project Views — a saved search which you can easily pin to your sidebar.

In the project view, you can choose whether you’d like to see the project listings in a conversation(e-mail like) layout, or in a data-grid layout. Some Project Views(e.g. “Latest Message”) feel natural in the conversation view, while others need more data-heavy layout.

Improved Project process

We’ve reworked the project creation screen, making is simpler to create a project. With the module-based system, you to compose the needed project functionality.
